Memory / by Kelly Murphy

There are a handful of moments that I recollect regularly… my experiences on Deep Woods Drive as a child inspired and rooted my love of nature, my 6 month solo travels abroad during my Saturn Return met me to the new and reconnected me to the forgotten, my first job working with animals as an assistant at a mostly equine practice confirmed my long held desire to become a veterinarian, spending time at grandmother’s house in the rice field and outdoor kitchen always treated to baked yams and coffee milk, and my first trip out west at the age of 19… pre Internet times where to see you must go- my mind was blown. I joined my high school boyfriend’s family in their RV one summer. Over the course of several weeks we visited Carlsbad Caverns, Tombstone, the PNW coast, Sequoia National Park, Seattle, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole, Grand Teton, and somewhere that I can’t remember in Colorado. I had received my first film camera just prior to this trip which set in motion my obsession with the medium. I took 20+ rolls and kept them close. Later I would digitize them and have included my favorites below.
